Hello there! What is your name? (I can’t find it in your profile section – you should add it!) Thank you so much for your recommendations. I’m interested in making a dinner reservation at one of the places you recommended, preferably Kyoryori Fujimoto/京料理 藤本, but open to your other recommendations as well. Do you know how far in advance do I need to call for a phone reservation (for dinner)?
Dear Mel,
Thank you for your inquiry.
Oh,sorry.I’m Keiko.I’ll add my name in my profile.
I contacted the restaurant, and I was told they are accepting reservations until Dec.31 2017.
Kyorryori Fujimoto is a hidden place. It’s a michelin star restaurant, but they offer a very nice Kaiseki dinner at a reasonable price.
The staff are very friendly and polite.
I hope you like it.
Keiko
Dear Keiko,
Thanks for the refreshing recommendations 🙂 My family and I were looking for a nice place to dine in Kyoto when we visit in November. One of us have allergy to shellfishes but would still love to try Kaiseki cuisine. Do you know if you or anyone could help with making a reservation? If we do it from our hotel in Kyoto, it might be too last minute. Kyoryori Fujimoto/京料理 藤本 looks perfect!
Dear Wendy,
Thank you for reading my blog.
I’m afraid I cant make a reservation, because I was once in a trouble when the reservation was cancelled.
Please kindly understand it.
I think Hotel concierge can make a reservation in advance.
I used to work at hotel, and I made a reservation on behalf of the customers 3 months before their check-in date.
If not, you can make a reservation by phone.
Kyoryori Fujimoto/京料理 藤本 +81(0)75-211-9105
I think they can speak English a little.
Show the staff “1人貝が食べられません”It means one of you cannot eat shellfishes.
Kind regards,
Keiko
Dear Keiko,
No worries. That makes sense, I can understand.
We will take your advice and try the hotel first (possibly 2 or 3 months ahead).
If not, I will call the restaurant to try and make a reservation 🙂
Thanks again, I appreciate it!
Dear Wendy,
Thank you for your reply.
Have a great meal at Fujimoto!
Keiko
Hi Keiko,
I still love your articles :-), but I think you may want to mention a note here that Kyoryori Fujimoto will not take in diners who cannot speak Japanese.
They conveyed that without a Japanese speaker dining with us, they need to politely decline our reservation (attempted reservation made by a Japenese speaker but under my name).
I hope you will not be too disappointed with this note, your articles are still very good and lets us look forward to our visit to Kyoto!
Dear Wendy,
Thank you for telling me that.
Firstly I’m sorry that you couldn’t eat dinner at Fujimoto.
You were looking forward to eating Kaiseki dinner at there, and you couldn’t.
I apologize about it.
Secondly I’m really surprised to hear that they politely declined your reservation.
Because I called them when you first emailed me, and they said they’re accepting foreign guests as well.
They told me they cannot speak English much, but they’ll explain their foods in plain English.
However I don’t want this happen again, so I will erase it from the list in few days although I love the foods at there.
I know other affordable kaiseki restaurants so I will add it in the list.
Thank you so much for your comment.
I hope you can enjoy a kaiseki dinner next time you visit Kyoto!
Kind regards,
Keiko
