There are three main stations in Kobe which are Sannomiya station,Kobe station and Shin-Kobe Station.

The Sannomiya area is the center of life and sightseeing in Kobe.

Sannomiya station give a immediate access to Kobe’s main area of shopping,dining,and sightseeing.

Kobe station used to be the center of the town, but was left behind in the development of the town and thus is now located in outside of the city.

Shin-Kobe station is a railway station located on the Sanyo Shinkansen line. It takes 20 minutes to go to Sannomiya station from Shin-Kobe station on foot.

From Osaka to Sannomiya station

There are 3 ways to go to Sannomiya station from Osaka which are run by JR Kobe line, Hankyu Railway,and Hanshin Electric Railway.

By JR Kobe line

The fastest way to get from JR Osaka station to JR Sannomiya station is by the Special Rapid service on the JR Kobe line.

You can take the Special Rapid Service on the JR Kobe line bound for Aboshi or Himeji departing from Platform 5.

JR Sannomiya station is the third stop from JR Osaka station.

It will get you to JR Sannomiya Station in 22 minutes for 410 yen.

If you miss the Special Rapid Service, take the Rapid service.It will take you JR Sannomiya station in 26 minutes.

By Hankyu Railway

The best & cheapest way to get from Hankyu Umeda station to Hankyu Kobe-Sannomiya station is by Limted Express on the Hankyu Kobe line.

You can take the Limited Express train on the Hankyu Kobe line bound for Shinkaichi departing from Platform 8 or 9.

Hankyu Sannomiya station is the sixth stop from Hankyu Umeda station.

It will get you to Hankyu Sannomiya Station in 28 minutes for 320 yen.

Locals prefer Hankyu train to JR because the view from the train is beautiful,and Hankyu Kobe line start at Umeda station,so you can get a seat.

※Please note that the station’s names of Sannomiya are different for JR,Hankyu and Hanshin.

By Hanshin Railway

Locals rarely use Hanshin Railway to go to Hanshin Kobe-Sannomiya station,because the number of trains on this line is small.

You can take the Limited Express train on the Hanshin main line bound for Sumaurakouen or Sanyohimeji departing from Platform 2.

Hanshin Kobe-Sannomiya station is the seventh stop from Hanshin Umeda station.

It will get you to Hanshin Kobe-Sannomiya Station in 33 minutes for 320 yen.

From Osaka to Kobe station

I rarely go to Kobe station since there is no major sightseeing spots there.

By JR Kobe line

You can take the Special Rapid Service on the JR Kobe line bound for Aboshi or Himeji departing departing from Platform 5.

JR Kobe station is the Fourth stop from JR Osaka station.

It will get you to JR Kobe Station in 26 minutes for 410 yen.

If you miss the Special Rapid Service, take the Rapid service.It will take you to JR Kobe station in 33 minutes.

From Osaka to Shin-Kobe station

By JR Kobe line

You can take the Special Rapid Service on the JR Kobe line to JR Sannomiya station.

You can change at Sannomiya station for the City subway line to Shin-Kobe.

It will get you to JR Shin-Kobe station in 35 minutes for 620 yen.

From Osaka to Sannomiya station, Kobe station and Shin-Kobe station

By Taxi

It will take you about 30〜40 minutes from Osaka to Kobe by Taxi.

The fare will be about 10,000 yen.

Tips

The fastest way to go to Kobe is using JR but I recommend you to use Hankyu railway if you are not in a hurry.

Because as I mentioned before,you can enjoy the beautiful views from train.The Hankyu train cars have large continuous windows to enjoy the views.
