Hi,I’m Keiko from Osaka!
Kyoto is one of the most popular sightseeing spots in Japan.
There are thousands of historical temples and shrines with old-Japan atmosphere in Kyoto.
I think many of the tourists use JR Kyoto station to go to the central area of Kyoto City for sightseeing.
However, there are multiple ways to travel from Osaka to Kyoto.
JR Kyoto station is located far from famous sightseeing spots such as Golden Pavillion(Kinkaku-ji) or Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto.
It is sometimes better to use Hankyu Rail Way or Keihan Railway depending on your destination in Kyoto.

Hi Keiko,
I really enjoyed your website giving me many ideas on places and restaurants to visit in Osaka and Kyoto. Thank you for all the useful information. I am planning a winter trip to Osaka – Kyoto – Naruto – Kobe – Osaka. Each locations about 2-3 days except Naruto (1 night). I do like to visit the recommended places like Fushimi Inari, Kinkaku-Ji, Arashiyama, Ginkaku-ji and Kiyomizu Template in a day. Can you recommend the sequence of visits in the most efficient manner? I will be staying at New Miyako Hotel and my travel will start from there. Along the way if there are notable restaurants, snacks, cafe that you can recommend that would be great too.
Thanks again, really appreciates your website definitely very well done.
Hi Wei,
Thank you for the inquiry.
Well, I don’t think it’s possible to go around these 5 places(Fushimi Inari, Kinkaku-Ji, Arashiyama, Ginkaku-ji and Kiyomizu Temple) in a day.
Kinkaku-Ji,Ginkaku-ji and Kiyomizu Temple is the golden route, and you can look around these places in a day.
Maybe you can visit fushimi inari shrine after that, because it’s not far from Kyoto station to fushimi inari.
My favorite cafe around Kiyomizu temple is Ten/天. I love Matcha cheesecake there.

Hi,Clarice,
Thank you for the inquiry.
Well, I can’t say which is the best because it depends on personal preference.
But if I have to choose one, I would choose Golden Pavilion.
Kind regards,
