How to get from Kyoto station to Gion?The best and cheapest way!

1.By Kyoto City Bus

Kyoto station bus terminal First of all,let me tell you how to get from JR Kyoto station to Kyoto station bus terminal.

Where is Kyoto station bus terminal?

After getting off the JR train, Exit through the West Gate and walk to the right.

You will find the JR Kyoto Isetan.

Go straight with Isetan on your left, and go down the escalator.

When you go down the escalator, you will find Kyoto station bus terminal.

Have you arrived at Kyoto station bus terminal?

OK,let’s take a bus and go to Gion!!


Take a bus#100 bound for Kiyomizu Temple/Gion/Ginkakuji Temple(清水寺祇園/銀閣寺) from Kyoto city bus terminal D1 and get off at Gion.

It will get you to Gion in 18 minutes for 230 yen.

or

Take a bus #206 bound for Kitaoji Bus Terminal via Higashiyama st.(東山通・北大路バスターミナル) from Kyoto city bus terminal D2 ang get off at Gion.

It will get you to Gion in 21 minutes for 230 yen.


The Kyoto City Bus One-Day Pass is available for 500 yen for adults and 250 yen for children.

This ticket will allow you to ride the city bus as many times as you want for a day (flat fare zones only).

You can purchase it from bus driver,vending machine in the boarding area,bus offices and subway ticket vending machines.

This is really convenient and it’s worth if you plan on riding the bus more than three times.
One day pass I have purchased the ticket in the picture like 3 years ago.

You can use it any time you want because there is no expiration date.

2.By JR line

Kyoto station You need to get to Gion-Shijo station.

Take a JR Nara Line train first stop to Tofukuji Station from Platform 8 or 9, and transfer to the Keihan Line bound for Demachiyanagi from Platform 1.

Gion-Shijo station is third stops from Tofukuji station.

It will get you to Gion-shijo station in 13-17 minutes for 270 yen.

3.By Subway

Shijo Take the subway Karasuma Line bound for Kokusaikaikan to Shijo station (different station from Gion-Shijo) then take a walk from Shijo station to Gion for 15 minutes.

The train ride would be 3 minutes for 210 yen (total required time:18 minutes)

or

You can take a short taxi ride from Shijo station to Gion.It would be 5 minutes for 800 yen.

I don’t recommend doing this because it’s not convenient way to go to Gion.

4.By Taxi

Taxi It will take you to Gion about 10 minutes by Taxi.

The fare would be between 1,100 and 1,600 yen.

5.By Walking

Kyoto Tower It’s not bad to go to Gion on foot if you have a time with no luggage.

There are many sightseeing spots on the way to go to Gion.

Gion is about 2.1km away from Kyoto station and it takes about 30 minutes by walk.

Lastly

I think the best way to go to Gion is taking the bus.It goes directly to gion and costs only 230 yen.

The quickest way is taxi which takes only 10 minutes.

However, Kyoto City Bus running from Kyoto Station to Gion is sometimes stuck in traffic during the tourist season.

Take JR or Subway if you want to avoid getting stuck on the traffic.
