This time, let me introduce you to great breakfast restaurants that are located right in and around Kyoto Station.

Hotel Granvia Kyoto is directly connected to the Kyoto Station Building, located on the 2nd floor, using the escalator right outside of JR Central Gate.

There are 3 restaurants inside Hotel Granvia, serving Japanese, Western or combination.

With so many options among them, you will be sure to find what you are looking for.

The Southern Court restaurant, located on the top floor of the hotel, serves a Western breakfast where you can choose your own main dish along with side dishes, that you can choose from the buffet bar.

The view from this restaurant itself is worth your visit.

Ukihashi, named after a legendary bridge in Kyoto, is a Japanese restaurant serving a plated traditional and beautiful Japanese breakfast.

For those who cannot choose, Le Temps restaurant serves everything from American breakfast, continental breakfast as well as a buffet breakfast that has both Japanese and the Western items.

2.Kyo-Yamatoya at New Miyako Hotel/京大和屋 新・都ホテル

Kyo Yamatoya is located on the underground floor of New Miyako Hotel, which is only 3-5 minutes from Kyoto Station.

The restaurant is a sister restaurant to Kyo Yamato, which is an esteemed restaurant that has been operating over 100 years in Kyoto.

Kyo Yamatoya is also atmospheric.

You can enjoy the tradition of Kyo Yamato in a quiet environment, but within a convenient distance from Kyoto Station.

The restaurant serves traditional Kyoto cuisine.

The breakfast menu, which you can tastes for 2,160yen looks more like an art than breakfast, composed of either rice porridge or cooked rice along with various beautiful side dishes that are both delicious and healthy.

You can have a refill of rice and miso soup if you like.

3.Sohonke Nishin Soba Matsuba JR Kyoto station/総本家にしんそば 松葉

Matsuba is a historic soba (buckwheat noodle) restaurant serving one of the most iconic soba dish in Kyoto, namely Nishin Soba (buckwhet noodle soup with a grilled herring).

Matsuba has been operating since 1861, and has several branches all over Kyoto.

This famous restaurant also serves one of the healthiest breakfasts in Kyoto, Soba Gayu.

Soba Gayu is a porridge dish made with soba (usually fruits of buckwheat).

The Soba Gayu set, which is priced at 800 yen, comes with a perfectly soft-boiled egg and a small bowl of soba noodle soup.

The porridge is very easy on your stomach, so it is perfect especially for those mornings after you had too much to eat or drink.

Matsuba is conveniently located inside the Kyoto Station Building on JR Shinkansen Concourse.

You need to buy platform ticket to go inside the train station(120 yen).

Right inside Kyoto Station, in Porta area, there is a popular coffee shop, Inoda Coffee. Inoda Coffee is probably the most famous café chain in Kyoto.

Their first shop opened in 1947 and now has 12 shops all over Kyoto and beyond.

This coffee chain serves a special Inoda styled coffee along with other types of coffee, which is a dark roasted Mocha based blend coffee, which already has sugar and milk, which has been loved by people of Kyoto since its origin.

Inoda coffee is known for its great breakfast options.

The most popular item in the morning is “Kyo no Choshoku (Kyoto’s Breakfast).”
For 1,380yen, you can have a great cup of coffee, along with some eggs, ham, salad, croissant, potatoes, and a glass of orange juice.

It is a popular menu for busy Japanese on their way to work.

In addition to a shop in Porta area, there is another shop inside Kyoto Station in front of JR Hachijo Guchi (Hachijo Gate).

Shinshindo is a popular bakery chain in Kyoto that has more than 12 bakeries, cafes and restaurants under its brand.

It usually serves more 100 kinds of bread including French, sweet, sandwiches, seasonal pastries, etc.

Established in 1913, this is a historical bread maker, the founder of which, was the first Japanese who went to Paris to study bread making, and contributed in bringing and developing French Baguette in Japan.

The JR Kyoto Station branch is open from 6:30, so perfect for early start.

You can pick up freshly baked bread or sandwiches along with coffee inside their shop.

The store is conveniently located inside the station, around 50 meters north of JR Kyoto Chuo Main Exit.

There is another store in Porta area of Kyoto Station, which opens at 7:30 in the morning, though they do not have seating area.

They bake breads in the bread oven inside the shop.

You can enjoy the freshly baked bread.
