1.Nakamuraya Main Shop/中村屋 総本店

Nakamuraya Nakamuraya is one of the most famous Korokke shops in Arashiyama.

Korokke is Japanese croquette(deep fried mushed potato,onion with minced beef).

Nakamuraya is a butcher shop so they offer not only meat but also Korokke and osouzai.(side dishes)

Nakamuraya Main Shop was introduced on TV,and many Japanese celebrities love the Korokke here.

Freshly made Korokke from butcher shop may taste better than other Krokke shops in Arashiyama.

2.Arashiyama Obuu/嵐山 おぶう

Obuu Arashiyama Obuu is located close to Togetsu bridge,along with main street of Arashiyama.

Arashiyama Obuu offers matcha based sweets ranging from Matcha parfait to Zenzai(sweet red-bean soup) with matcha ice cream.

Food&souvenir shop is located on the 1st floor where you can buy traditional Kyoto-style sweets and souvenirs.

Obuu Cafe is located on the second floor,so you can enjoy Matcha parfait,Zenzai,and Green tea with the great view of Togetsu bridge from the window.

Must-Eat sweets here is”Matcha daifuku(250yen)”.

Matcha Daifuku is a rice cake stuffed with mathca based sweets filling.

The matcha filling wrapped with soft rice cake is creamy and not too sweet which melt in your mouth.

3.Shinpachi Chaya/新八茶屋

Arashiyama Shinpachi Chaya is famous gelato and ice cream shop which is conveniently located at the foot of togetsu bridge in Arashiyama.

They have won the 3rd place in the International Gelato Contest which was held in Italy in 2010.

I have tried award-winning Premio Pistachio gelato(550yen) which is a joint production of Japanese matcha and Itatlian gelato using premio pistachio from Sicily.

It’s tasty, but Italian gelato that I had in Italy was much tastier.Italian people might see my blog,so I cann’t lie:)

There are a variety of gelato flavors such as”Lemon no Waltz(lemon sherbet),Sakuramochi(rice cake with bean paste wrapped in a preserved cherry leaf) and season menu etc.

They use only 100% natural, fresh fruits from carefully selected suppliers, free from artificial flavor.

If you want to try award-winning gelato, you should try gelato in Shinpachi Chaya!

4.Kotoimo Honpo/古都芋本舖

Kotoimo Kotoimo Honpo is located in front of the entrance to the bamboo grove,along with the main street of Arashiyama.

They offer a variety of traditional Japanese sweets at a reasonable price,such as dango(small mochi balls),matcha soft serve ice cream,and Kotoimo.

This shop’s name “kotoimo” is the Japanese-style sweet potato,and this is their specialty.

The baked sweet potato flavored with sesame is very tasty.

Every sweets is highly recommended at Kotoimo Honpo,but I especially recommend four-layer soft-serve ice cream(270 yen) which you can enjoy four flavors.

The four flavors are houjicha,matcha,vanilla and season’s flavor.

Mitarashi dango(Small mochi balls topped with sugar sweetened soy sauce)is also very nice.

You can drop by this shop before going into bamboo grove.

5.Kyo Sagano Chikujian Main Store/京 嵯峨野 竹路庵 本店

Chikuji Kyo Sagano Chikujian is Traditinal Japanese sweets shop in Kyoto.

This shop offers a wide variety of Japanese sweets from Sakuramochi to Mamedaifuku.

The Must-Eat food here is “Warabimochi”.

Warabimochi is a jelly-like confection made from brackenstarch topped with kinako powder and brown sugar syrup.

They offer three types of flavors,kinako,matcha and kuromitsu.

Freshly made Waramimochi has smooth and soft texture which melt in your mouth.

They worked really hard to make the perfect texture which made their warabimochi even more special than other shop’s warabimochi.

Warabimochi in a small cup costs only for 300 yen.

It is the best sweets to have while walking.
